This blog is intended as an organized weekly plan of things to do with your young children. This is the plan we use, however due to life happening, we generally do not get through everything listed for the week. Some weeks when we have more time available than planned for, we pull things from previous weeks that we didn't get to or that we really enjoyed.

Please use these plans as a guide and not as a rigid to do list. If the weather is good, please go out and enjoy it and don't feel you need to do anything I suggested. Adapt the items as necessary to meet your families' needs.

Please use wisdom in doing these activities as I am not liable for anything that may happen to anyone in the performance or avoidance of doing these activities.

January 26 - February 1 -- Penguins

Song"Have You Ever Seen A Penguin" or "Five Little Penguins". I found both of these on YouTube.
SnackPenguin Sandwiches, goldfish
Reading"Baby penguins everywhere" by Guion, Melissa

MondayPenguin boxes Make cute boxes that look like penguins with an open mouth. Could also make the mouth from construction paper (see game tomorrow)..  Supplies: Carboard box, paintbrushes, paint, scissors, construction paper, markers, tape, googly eyes (optional).
Active moment: Do the activities to "Have You Ever Seen A Penguin" as you sing along.

TuesdayFeed the penguin game Play the feed the penguin game with the penguins you made yesterday..  Supplies: Penguin to feed (from yesterday), items to feed the penguins (ex: shape fish or number fish made using construction paper and markers).
Active moment: Learn some of the Cha-cha. It involves some hip wiggling, kind of like a penguin waddle. This link has some fun ideas of implementing it. You probably want to learn the basic step by yourself (YouTube has a lot of tutorials) and then teach you children

WednesdayPenguins and igloos from building blocks Use your building blocks to make all things penguin. Here's a >picture to get your imagination going..  Supplies: Building blocks and your imagination.
Active moment: Pretend you are going on an expidition to find Penguins, Polar Bears and other such animals. Pretend you have to take a row boat to get there and do the seated row (without weights).

ThursdayPenguin footprints Make an adorable penguin picture using the kids (and your) footprints. I couldn't find the original site, but I thought this picture would give you enough of an idea you could do it yourself..  Supplies: Bare foot, paint (black, white, orange), paint brush, glue, googly eyes.
Active moment: Penguin races or even relay races. See who can waddle from one end of the room the fastest. Hold a fish (bean bag) under your neck and do it again. Then do it like a relay with having to pass off the fish to the next person. The giggle about how funny it all is

FridayWater bottle penguins Reuse those water bottles to make some fun penguins. Again, I couldn't find the original source, but I thought the image showed enough detail you would be fine..  Supplies: Empty water bottle, black paint or tape or even construction paper, orange feather (from store or make from construction paper), glue, googly eyes, construction paper (black and orange), cotton balls or white paper..
Active moment: Chase the penguin (tag). Have someone be the polar bear (it) and chase the penguins. Keep the chase confined to the iceberg (room, rug or any area you define).

TuesdaySnowflake window clings Sparkly window clings you make to go on your window..  Supplies: Snowflake image, wax paper, sparkly dimensional fabric paint..
Active moment: Burpee jump ups to "Once There Was A Snowman", although I will probably skip the plank / pushup portion

WednesdayCut out snowflakes. Put up the snowflake window clings. Cut out some big and little snowflakes in preparation for tomorrow's activities. Cut out some extra just for fun. If the cutting is too hard for the children (due to paper thickness), have them draw on the paper where they would like you to cut..  Supplies: Paper, scissors, pencil (optional).
Active moment: Twirling like snowflakes do as they fall. Jumping Jacks to catch the snowflakes.

ThursdaySnowflake ballerinas and Snowflake trains  Use snowflakes for tutus for cute ballerinas. Use snowflakes for the wheels and smoke for trains. Color the ballerinas. Glue the trains together on a paper. I had intentions of doing this for Christmas and using the ballerinas as ornaments on the tree and hooking the train and cars together as a garland to go around the tree.  Supplies: Colored paper, scissors, glue, crayons, ballerina template.
Active moment: Ballet dancing or Conga linelike a train

FridaySnow paint snowmen (or snowboys and snow girls) Use this fun puffy paint (NON-edible) to paint snowmen and other things snow..  Supplies: Shaving cream, white school glue, peppermint extract (optional), iridescent glitter or buffalo snow.
Active moment: Any exercise you want so you can be a fit snowman that can run and play and keep up with the other boys and girls.

Active moment: The sheep got out! Have someone be the shepherd and someone else be a sheep. If more than two, divide however you would like. Have those being sheep try and get past the shepherd to the greener pastures. Can have the sheep standing or on all fours like a sheep.
FridayCherry coconut snowball cookies Let you children measure, dump, mix and roll in this fun recipe..  Supplies: flour, ground almonds, salt, unsalted butter, powdered sugar, water, almond extract, maraschino cherries, milk, coconut flakes.
